American Red Cross Lifeguard Training provides lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. Lifeguard Training Prerequisites
Lifeguard Training participants must be at least 15 years old, able to swim 300 yards (12 lengths of a 25 yard pool) without stopping using front crawl and breaststroke, tread water for 2 minutes using legs only, and retrieve a 10-lb brick from 7 feet deep and swim 20 yards with the weight, using legs only and exit the water without using a ladder or steps within 1 minute 40 seconds. Lifeguard Certificates Issued
American Red Cross certifications in Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer – all valid for 2 years.

What to Bring to Class
Bathing suit and towel (one piece swim suit for females), a pen or pencil, paper for notes, lunch or lunch money, a meal break will be offered on full-day training days, duration and time of breaks will be determined by the instructor. CPR pocket mask, or participants may purchase a mask at the class for $20.
Program Policies
NO REFUNDS will be issued once course fees have been submitted. In the event that a participant is unable to pass the prerequisites or final exams the participant may transfer to a class at a later date (if available). If a participant is absent from any scheduled class days or times, the participant will not be offered a transfer or refund of any kind.
