Water Safety Instructor Certification
American Red Cross WSI Certification
The Water Safety Instructor course certifies swimming instructors to teach Red Cross swimming, diving and water safety programs.
WSI Class Prerequisites: Minimum age of 16 years old. Demonstrate proficiency in six strokes: front crawl (freestyle), back crawl (backstroke), elementary backstroke, sidestroke, breaststroke, and butterfly – 25 yards per stroke. Tread water for 1 minute.
WSI Certification Requirements: Attend all class sessions; demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities; correctly answer at least 80 percent of the questions in the final written exam.
WSI Certificates Issued: Upon successful course completion, Water Safety Instructor candidates will receive an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification valid for 2 years.
Water Safety Instructor Classes
Each class number is a complete course, participants need to attend one weekend (Sat & Sun) to get certified.

Required Online Course
Prior to the in-class date, all WSI participants must complete an online course thru the Red Cross Learning Center for $28, which in addition to the class fee. Information on completing the online course will be emailed to you once you register for a class.
Save $20 on two or more classes
Save $20 when you register for two or more classes with-in 60 days. A coupon code for $20 off the second class will be emailed to you once you register for a class. Offer valid for Lifeguard Training, Water Safety Instructor, CPR/First Aid Instructor or Lifeguard Instructor classes only.
Vistors– Only registered participants are allowed on the pool deck or in the class rooms during training. All visitors including parents must wait in the parking lot.
Refunds – No refunds will be issued once course fees have been submitted. In the event that a participant is unable to pass the prerequisites or final exams the participant may transfer to a class at a later date (if available). If a participant is absent from any scheduled class days or times, the participant will not be offered a transfer or refund of any kind.
Transfers– The class transfer fee is $30 and registered participants are required to notify Safe Swim at least 48 hours prior to the first class date that you are currently registered for in order to be eligible to transfer.
