Lifeguarding Instructor Recertification

The Lifeguard Instructor/Instructor Trainer Recertification course is the required course for all Lifeguard Instructors and Instructor Trainers to re-certify in the r.24 American Red Cross course.

The course is delivered in a blended learning format, consisting of an online session (completed independently by the candidate) and in-person sessions (led by an American Red Cross–certified instructor trainer). 

Upon successful completion of the review course, the Lifeguard Instructor or Lifeguard Instructor Trainer certification will be renewed for 2 years.

• Possess a current r.24 American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor certification or Lifeguarding Instructor Trainer certification
• Complete the Lifeguarding Instructor Recertification online course sessions, which include two components:
  • Basic-level Lifeguarding blended learning online content (up to 6 hours)

  • Lifeguarding Instructor Recertification blended learning online content (up to 2 hours)

Instructors who wish to achieve a basic-level lifeguarding certification have the option to “test out” at the conclusion of the Lifeguarding Instructor Review course. Instructors/ITs who choose to attend the “test out” session and successfully complete all basic-level course requirements will earn an American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certification, valid for 2 years.

The“test out” session includes:

• Lifeguarding precourse skills evaluation
• Lifeguarding course final skills scenarios
• Two final written exams (CPRO/First Aid and Lifeguarding Skills)

The following items are REQUIRED for the class – Links to all course materials will be emailed to participants upon registering for a class. If you do not receive the email please contact our office at 949-420-0804:

• Current r.24 American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor and/or Lifeguarding Instructor Trainer certification
• Class Forms (printed)
• Lifeguard Instructor Manual r.2024 (digital or printed)
• Lifeguarding Manual r.2024 (digital or printed)
• Adult and Infant CPR pocket masks (may be purchased at class for $25/set)
• Bathing suit, towel, dry clothes, sun screen and bottle water
• A pen or pencil and paper for notes

Refund Policy – All fees are non refundable. If a participant is a no show or can not complete the course for any reason, no refunds will be issued.

Transfer Policy – No transfers will be granted for this class. If a participant is unable to attend, no refunds will be given.

No Visitors – Only registered participants are allowed on the pool deck or in the classrooms during training. All visitors including parents must wait in the parking lot.

Cancelled Class Policy – Safe Swim/Heart CPR reserves the right to cancel classes as needed. In the event a class is canceled registered participants will be offered a transfer to a different class at no additional charge or a full refund.
