This page provides important information on steps LGI Candidates must complete before the start of the LGI class. Please read all the information on this page carefully and follow all instructions to prepare for the Lifeguard Instructor course.
Note: You will not be able to continue in the Lifeguarding Instructor course if you have not completed all of the steps below by the first class meeting.

[accordion_toggle title=”Step 1: Complete the online Lifeguard Instructor course”]
Prior to the in-class date, all LGI Candidates must complete an online Introduction to the Lifeguard Instructor course thru the Red Cross Learning Center.
You will receive a separate email from the Red Cross with information to complete the online portion of the class. Please read the email carefully and follow the link in the email to complete the online portion before the classroom session.
To LOGIN to the Learning Center for the first time:
- Go to: https://www.redcrosslearningcenter.org/
- Click ‘LOGIN’ in the top right corner
- Click ‘Forgot your password? Click here.’
- Enter you email in the Username field
- Click ‘Send Password reset Email’ button
- Check your email and follow the password reset instructions
- Login to the learning center and the online course will appear on your homepage under ‘Classes I’m Taking’
Note: If you signed up for the class last minute and did not receive the online course information, please reply to your registration confirmation email or call our office immediately. Otherwise, we will assist you at the start of the classroom session.

LGI candidates are required to have the following textbooks for the class. You may download and print, or purchase the manuals using the links below.

- Lifeguarding Instructor Manual – (must bring a printed copy to class)
- Lifeguarding Manual (must bring a digital or printed copy to class)

Note: The Red Cross now requires the Lifeguarding Instructor manual be a hard copy (either printed or purchased) for the LGI class; and the Lifeguarding manual may be either a digital or hard copy for class. We do not sell books at class so please plan accordingly.

The presentation is under the ‘Instructor Materials (Core)’ Section.
Note: If you have problems with the Presentation you should save the file to your computers desktop and open it with the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader. The Presentation will not work with other PDF readers and it will not work in a web browser. You must save the file to your computer and open it with Adobe Acrobat and allow time for the presentation file to load.
